As part of the UGD-HUB project, the University of Malaga organized the largest experience of creation of entrepreneurial ideas of the University of Malaga: Flash Session Hackathon - A sustainable entrepreneurship journey, from 10-12 May 2023.
This hackathon focuses on sustainable entrepreneurship, and a special prize has been created for the best project in sustainability, which will allow two of its members to travel to Split (Croatia) to participate in a training program in digital, sustainable and entrepreneurial skills that will culminate in an international competition of university startups at European level, STup.
The participants of the Flash Session Hackathon are selected from more than 300 applications from undergraduate, graduate and master degree students. For three days they work in multidisciplinary groups at the Hub for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Link by UMA, and acquire skills for the validation of ideas and their transformation into sustainable entrepreneurship projects.
During the event, participants attended talks on sustainability, project development and communication, and were accompanied by more than 25 mentors who covered multiple areas of expertise, such as digital marketing, economics, public speaking, video games, project management, among others.
This program is supported by the European Commission through UGD-HUB project and has the collaboration of other entities: Promálaga, the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Malaga, the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Malaga, MainJobos, OXO Video Game Museum, Varsan, Biznaga Valley, Giants, Close Marketing, Ecodec's, Postres Truffel or Cervezas Victoria, which together make possible the realization of this event.
The winner of the hackathon is a solar panel recycling plant project, called 'Green South'. It is a sustainable alternative that complements the boom in the growing demand for solar panels, anticipating the removal and replacement of these elements at the end of their useful life.
The second prize went to '2HIDRO', a commitment to the use of clean energy in the automotive sector that promotes the transformation of mobility in cities. It is a kit that transforms diesel and gasoline cars into vehicles that use hydrogen as energy.
Meanwhile, 'Crick Crunch', a project to manufacture cricket flour for its transformation into energy bars, allowing a sustainable and ecological production of food with high protein content, won the third prize.
