Hack4Split 2023 was held on April 15th and 16th in Split and was marked with green innovations.
The goal of this event is to find and implement socially beneficial green and digital solutions that would improve the local community using modern technologies.
Hack4Split hackathon took place at the SPINIT incubator premises, organized by the Entrepreneurship Center Split and the Student Business Incubator of the Faculty of Economics, as part of the University Green Digital HUB project. A total of 8 teams with 33 participants worked in a vibrant and proactive atmosphere to tackle various social and environmental issues, contributing to the progress of our community.
The sixth edition of the hackathon brought together a significant number of talented individuals with excellent ideas that resulted in projects applicable in various social and economic spheres, all revolving around the common denominator - the use of modern technologies.
Here are the projects presented in order:
1. Conscious Cloth - a clothing brand that enables reusing old clothes through attractive redesign.
2. Dalmatian Roots - an interactive map of eco-producers of olive oil, wine, and other Dalmatian products in the region.
3. Quick Recycle - an app for recycling small amounts of PET waste, rewarding users for their efforts.
4. Green Guardian - a platform aimed at reducing single-use plastic in restaurants.
5. BeBee - an IoT solution that allows monitoring conditions within beehives.
6. CRO PET - a platform for adopting abandoned animals.
7. Sortify - an app for recognizing recyclable waste and rewarding users accordingly.
8. Smart Library - autonomous libraries made from 3D-printed recycled materials.
The "Smart Library" team won the "Best Design" award for the prototype they developed in just two days. The "Sortify" team received the "Best Green Solution" award, while the overall winners of the hackathon and recipients of the "Best Team" award were the "BeBee" team, who performed exceptionally well during the event.
In addition to the working and competitive aspects of the hackathon, workshops on idea validation were conducted by Arjan Goudsbloom and Tomas Pinjušić, along with a presentation skills workshop led by Pinija Poljaković. Throughout the hackathon, participants had access to 10 mentors from various fields of business and technical product or service development.
At the same time, hackathon at the partner university HdM in Stuttagart was taking place, so both groups connected online to kick-off the competition and listen to Arjan's session.
As a green-oriented hackathon, Hack4Split is part of the University Green Digital HUB project this year, taking place at three locations, in partner universities in Spain, Germany, and Croatia. The main goal of the project is to strengthen the digital, green, and entrepreneurial skills of students, university startups, and university staff, as well as to enhance the capacities of higher education institutions in the field of teaching for digital and green transition.
